Educating Today for a Better Tomorrow!

Activities, Clubs, and Groups

Activities, Clubs and Groups Overview

Hillcrest has several different groups and clubs available for participation especially for our upper grades. These groups allow students to learn new skills, build connection with peers, and continue to support our school in everyday activities. See information below for each individual group.

Everyday Leadership

Students present the money raised in their treat sale to Ronald McDonald charities.

A group of students hold signs promoting a treat sale in a library setting.

Students held a treat sale around Valentine's Day to help raise money for charity.

What is Everyday Leadership?

Everyday Leadership is a program designed to enhance leadership qualities and promote positive behavior amongst 5th and 6th grade students. Throughout the school year students learn leadership skills such as public speaking, active listening, taking action, and motivating others. Additionally, students learn how to lead by example in their everyday lives.

What is Green Team?

Green team ambassadors are students who are interested in being a leader at Hillcrest Elementary and will help make a positive impact on our school environment and our community. We will work as a team to strengthen the four pillars of sustainability in the Boise School District:

Energy, Water, Waste, and Education.

  • The Green Team student ambassadors will participate in sustainability projects and initiatives that benefit our community's people, the planet, and prosperity for the future.
  • Our projects include Tree Quest, Outdoor Classroom tasks, Energy Vampire Ambassadors, and Recycling.

One of our most important duties is helping pedestrians safely cross in our parking lot.

What is Safety Patrol?

Building Leadership Through Service
The Safety Patrol Program is open to 5th and 6th grade students who are interested in helping create a safe, respectful, and welcoming school environment. Student safety patrol members assist before and after school while serving as positive role models for younger students.

Participation in safety patrol is both a privilege and a leadership opportunity. Students selected for the program will receive training on safety procedures, assigned duties, and expectations for conduct while on patrol.

Responsibilities of Safety Patrol Students
Safety patrol students may assist with:

  • Supporting safe arrival and dismissal procedures
  • Assisting at designated crosswalk and entry areas
  • Helping supervise common student areas
  • Raising and lowering the school flag
  • Assisting with lunchroom support duties
  • Demonstrating respectful and responsible leadership
  • Students are expected to arrive on time, follow all safety procedures, and represent the school positively at all times.
