Boise School Board Vice President Maria Greeley to Resign in September
After More Than a Decade of Service
Boise, ID (August 19th, 2025) – During the August 11th, 2025 Board meeting, Maria Greeley, Vice President of the Boise School Board of Trustees announced her intent to resign from the Board at the next regularly scheduled board meeting on September 8, 2025. Trustee Greeley shared that her husband, Neil, has accepted a multi-year work assignment in Singapore.
In a letter shared with District staff earlier today, Greeley expressed her deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Boise community and her enduring confidence in the District’s leadership and mission.
“As I say farewell, I do so with the confidence that our Superintendency and Board will continue to be strong and lead with resiliency and integrity as they navigate the many upcoming challenges,” Trustee Greeley wrote in her letter. “I am so grateful to have been of service to our Boise community that understands the value of public education.”
Greeley was first elected to the Board in 2012 and was reelected in both 2018 and 2024. Over her thirteen years of service, she has left a lasting imprint on the Boise School District through her leadership, advocacy, and unwavering belief in the power of public schools.
During her tenure, Greeley served on numerous board committees, including Governance, Facilities, Strategic Planning, and Superintendent Evaluation. She made it a priority to visit every school in the District, forging connections with educators, students, and families across Boise. A strong proponent of academic rigor and student voice, Greeley championed policies that expanded student choice, improved equitable access to programs, and upheld the District’s commitment to high-quality education for all learners.
Before joining the Board, Greeley co-chaired the successful campaign to overturn the so-called “Luna Laws” and was an active member of “Friends of Boise Schools,” supporting the 2012 levy to maintain class sizes.
“It’s been an honor to serve with Maria,” said Board of Trustee’s President Dave Wagers. “Her steadfast dedication to students and her unwavering support for our employees has never wavered. She has been a steady hand and unshakeable leader through some of the most turbulent times in public education. While I’m excited for what her future holds, I am going to miss her and we’ll all miss her advocacy for our great public schools.”
A proud parent of four Borah High School graduates, Greeley brought a personal passion to her role and consistently focused on doing what’s best for students, both as future leaders and as leaders of today.
The Board of Trustees will formally accept Trustee Greeley’s resignation at their September 8 Board meeting. At that same meeting, the Board will also announce the process for appointing a new trustee to fill the vacancy.
