Boise School District students proved once again that hands-on learning leads to real-world success! This summer, students from three of our four Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) β SkillsUSA, FCCLA, and HOSA β earned top national and international honors.
π SkillsUSA (Dennis Technical Education Center) β Gold in Cybersecurity, Bronze in Telecommunications Cabling, and multiple top-10 national finishes.
π₯ HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) β Boise and Timberline students placed 2nd and 4th in Nursing Assisting among 14,000 global competitors.
π₯ FCCLA (Family, Career & Community Leaders of America) β Gold medals in Public Policy and Nutrition & Wellness, including a first-place national win in Foods & Nutritional Sciences.

From North Junior High to the Big Screen: A Boise Homecoming for Gracie & Bella Hall
Boiseβs own Gracie and Bella Hallβformer theater and video broadcasting students at North Junior High School and Boise High School Class of 2020 graduatesβare premiering their debut feature film, Misophonia, at the Egyptian Theatre on November 22.
The sisters studied under North teacher Alicia Wright for three years, where their creativity, collaboration, and passion for storytelling first flourished. Since then, theyβve gone on to win numerous film contests, including the Coca-Cola Refreshing Films national competition, and have been featured in several film festivals nationwide.
Last year, Gracie and Bella invited Wright to appear in their filmβan experience she described as an incredible honor and a powerful reminder of the lasting impact teachers have on their students.

Misophonia, filmed entirely in Boise, blends humor and emotion to explore the sensory disorder that inspired its title. The event features a 6 p.m. red carpet, 7 p.m. screening, and a Q&A with the filmmakers.

Ana wowed audiences with her performance of Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor by Max Bruch, earning top honors among talented musicians statewide.

Due to the nature of Infinite Campus, any prior consents will be rolled over as an active consent or non-consent for this school year. Parents/guardians are encouraged to review their current selection and update it if needed.
About the survey:
The survey is confidential and voluntary.
It helps schools and communities better understand the real-life experiences of teens regarding their health and well-being.
The more students who participate, the more accurate and useful the data becomes for identifying supports and improving student well-being.
The survey will take place October 27 β November 7, 2025 (each school selects its own date).
Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield encourages districts to participate, noting the survey was developed in Idaho with input from educators, counselors, legislators, and the Idaho Department of Education. Responses are anonymous; students may answer all, some, or none of the questions.

Community members are invited to participate in Be Sensitive, Be Brave, a free, culturally inclusive suicide prevention workshop designed for teens and adults.
Led by Shannon Decker, Executive Director of The Speedy Foundation, this two-hour virtual training helps participants recognize signs of suicide, ask sensitive questions with confidence, and connect individuals to support in culturally responsive ways.

The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights recently recognized Whittier Elementary School and Dani Backer, the Boise School Districtβs Social Studies and World Languages Supervisor, with nominations for the Idaho Human Rights Educator of the Year Awardβhonoring their shared commitment to equity, inclusion, and human dignity.
Whittier was celebrated for its teamwork and community partnerships that ensure every student feels welcomed, supported, and valued. From uniting foster siblings to coordinating care for students with medical needs, Whittier exemplifies compassion and collaboration.

Building Safer, Stronger Neighborhoods β One Step at a Time
On Wednesday, October 8th, families, neighbors, and staff across the Boise School District joined students in celebrating National Walk & Roll to School Day. From sidewalks and bike lanes to crosswalks and cul-de-sacs, the morning buzzed with energy and connection.
Events like this highlight how schools and communities can work together to promote healthy lifestyles, safe routes, and neighborhood pride. When families walk, bike, or roll to school, they not only reduce traffic congestion but also strengthen the sense of community that makes Boise such a great place to live and learn.
As we continue the school year, we encourage everyone to stay alert for students traveling to and from school and to help keep our streets safe for all.
During a Special Board meeting held on October 8, 2025, members of the Boise School Board appointedΒ Dr. Alejandro NecocheaΒ (pictured) to fill a vacancy on the Board.
Dr. Necochea was appointed following a month-long public process that included interviews with six applicants. Because Dr. Necochea was unavailable during the October 13, 2025 Board meeting, he will be sworn into office at a future Board meeting or workshop.
Dr. Necochea will serve until the next regular election of the Board of Trustees onΒ Tuesday, September 2, 2026, when he will have the option to run for the unexpired term of the office.

The Boise School Board proudly presented the 2025 Bob Wand Memorial Art Award to Bianca Peterson, a 4th grader at Dallas Harris Elementary School, during the October 13th Board meeting.
Named in honor of Bob Wand, a former Boise School District Art Supervisor who championed creativity and arts education, the award recognizes exceptional student artwork that captures imagination, expression, and skill.

This free annual event provides a one-stop opportunity to connect with representatives from colleges, universities, military academies, and career training programs from across the nation. Whether you are just beginning to explore your options or finalizing your post-graduation plans, the College Fair offers valuable face-to-face conversations with admissions counselors who can answer questions about academic programs, scholarships, application processes, and campus life.
The Boise National College Fair supports the Boise School Districtβs Strategic Plan, particularly our focus on Student-Centered Learning and College & Career Readiness. The City of Boise is seeking input from families and community members on how federal housing funds will be invested over the next five years. This work stems from the Community Health Needs Assessment, which identified housing as a top priority for community well-being.
