From The Principal's Desk

Dear Hillcrest Families,
We are off to a great start as settle into routines. The Hillcrest Team took the first 13 days of school and spent time focusing on building connections, fostering a sense of community, reviewing our shared expectations for behavior in common spaces throughout the school and doing some beginning of the year academic testing. As we enter into the month of September, our team is excited to begin helping students understand where they are in their learning and what they need to do to progress forward.
We have also prioritized safety by reviewing and practicing emergency drills. During our 2nd week of school, we conducted a fire drill. Our students did amazing in just a short amount of time. We will continue teaching and practicing our other safety drills throughout the quarter. In October, we will hold our first lockdown drill in partnership with the Boise Police Department. Each year, we collaborate with the department to help us identify any areas for improvement. We truly value their expertise and support.
If you haven’t already, we encourage all families to sign up for the district’s emergency text messaging system. You can sign up here: Guest Emergency Text Alert Group. For more information about our district's emergency response protocols, please refer to our district's website: School Safety & Weather Procedures.
Thank you to everyone who attended Back to School Night! If you missed it, here is the link to the presentation from the first part of the evening. If you weren’t able to visit your child’s classroom, I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher for important classroom specific information. We value your partnership and look forward to continuing to support your learner’s success.
Upcoming Event: Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) Meeting
On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, we will host our first Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting in the school library. This committee provides meaningful parent input and collaboration in planning, implementing, and evaluating our school’s Title I program. The PAC’s input is essential for ensuring that federal Title I funds are used effectively to improve academic achievement and family connection. All parents and guardians are welcome to attend any of the PAC meetings throughout the year. We hope to see you there!
Warmest Regards,
Dr. David

Lost and Found

As the weather begins to shift—with cooler temperatures in the morning and warmer afternoons—we’re starting to see more jackets and other clothing items being left behind. Unfortunately, many of these items are feeling a little sad because their owners haven’t come looking for them! 😊
If your child is missing a jacket or another clothing item, please feel free to stop by and check our Lost & Found. You can come into the building, get a visitor badge, and we’ll direct you to the Lost & Found. You are also welcome to browse on your own after school hours.
Our Lost & Found is now located outside in the back foyer, between the band portable and the locked outside bathroom doors.
We’d love to help reunite these lost items with their owners before they become permanent residents of the Lost & Found! 🧥😊

Spirit Wear

For a limited time, families can purchase Hillcrest spirit wear through the end of September!
Be sure to check out our Hillcrest store if you’re interested in purchasing something for your child—or for yourself! We love seeing our students and families show their Tiger Spirit on Fridays! 💙🐯
The Process:
  • Order online, by scanning the QR code or clicking on this link: https://stores.inksoft.com/hillcrest_elementary_spirit_sto.
  • Place order and make payment directly to the vendor online.
  • Once the online store closes the spirit wear orders will be process and delivered to Hillcrest.
  • The clothing items will then be distributed to students to take home.

Community School

As many of you may know or may not know, Hillcrest is not a community school, which means we have limited resources available to provide directly to our families. However, the great news is that Whitney Elementary, located just down the hill, is our partnering community school!
Whitney has a variety of resources and supports available to families in our community. Please take a look at the flyer below to learn more about what they offer and how you can access these resources.
If you have additional questions or need help connecting with a resource, please feel free to reach out directly to Kayce Anderson. She is always happy to help!
